 This
website was created by Robert Pretlow, MD (right), a pediatrician who is involved in the
care of overweight children and teens. Dr. Pretlow speaks frequently at conferences and had created other websites for kids with
ongoing conditions, e.g. bedwetting and asthma. Most kids with such conditions feel
"different" and alone. The Internet is a wonderful place for
kids with these types of problems to obtain information and to interact with other kids
with the same problems, without having to reveal their identities.
Overweight kids have many similar issues. It was therefore
felt that an interactive website for overweight kids and teens, as well as their
parents, could help these kids deal with their weight.
The site's initial name was
BlubberBusters.com, which was highly successful, but unfortunately offended a
few users. A
survey revealed that most users did not want
the name BlubberBusters changed. Therefore, the BlubberBusters.com site
was continued, and a new site, WeighCool.com, was created with the same content
as BlubberBusters.com. However, several users eventually complained that
the WeighCool name was more attuned to young adults. Therefore, an email
was sent out to several hundred kids, who use the site, asking their ideas for a
replacement name. The result was Weigh2Rock.com. "You rock!" is
highly complimentary in today's kidspeak.
Weigh2Rock.com has a professional advisory board consisting of:
1) Robert Pretlow,
MD, MSEE, FAAP, a pediatrician, who also has a masters degree in electrical
engineering;
2) Julie Dillon, MS, RD, a registered pediatric dietitian, who also has
a masters degree in counseling;
3) Meredee Lloyd, RN, a registered nurse, who has
a focus in psychology;
4) Carol Stock, JD, MN, RN, a nurse practitioner, who is
also an attorney, who specializes in eHealth and eCare issues.
Weigh2Rock.com allows kids, teens,
and parents from all over
the world to interact with each other and to support each other. It further
allows healthcare providers to follow the progress of their overweight pediatric
patients and clients on the website, to interact with them online, and to provide
support and care, in other words to provide
"eCare." eCare saves travel
time for patients and clients, allows closer monitoring of their progress, and saves time for
their healthcare providers. We hope that our site is helpful to you.
